  • Frequently Asked Questions

Is sedation dentistry safe? We offer sedation dentistry only to patients who are medically well – they have already been thoroughly checked out beforehand. At our clinic the preparation is administered by a qualified anaesthetist – a registered specialist with a medical degree plus a post-graduate qualification in anaesthetics.

  • Am I a candidate for sedation dentistry?

To be eligible for treatment under intravenous sedation, patients must be in good general health. As a rule, sedation dentistry is most appropriate for patients who are highly anxious or even phobic of dental treatments, rather than those who are simply time poor. At Smile Solutions every patient requesting this option will first undergo a pre-sedation assessment by our IV sedation dentist.

  • Sedation dentistry at Smile Solutions

Unlike at some other clinics, sedation dentistry at Smile Solutions is administered and supervised by a registered specialist anaesthetist, not by a dentist. Our patients can therefore claim a Medicare rebate of about a quarter of the cost of the sedation. In addition, as Australia's largest dental practice in a single location, Smile Solutions is in a unique position to offer you and your loved ones all of the following:

  • The dental treatments we offer- both with and without sedation

At Smile Solutions you are assured of being treated by the appropriate clinician, regardless of whether you do or do not require sedation. We will never compromise your quality of care. All of our 45-plus specialists, general dentists and hygienists work together in the one location, and between them they cover all areas of dentistry. This means that you will always be treated according to your needs and it also enables a high level of communication - and hence a better outcome - between all the clinicians treating you.
